Turbo Tech Tutorials

Turbo 101 | Turbo 102 | Turbo 103 | Diesel Tech | Turbo Optimization

You've heard the word "turbo" tossed around a lot, especially by performance car enthusiasts. But all you know is that it means an engine has more "oomph" to it than normal. But what exactly is going on underneath that hood? The tutorials sections is divided into 3 sections; Beginner, Intermediate and Advanced.

The Basic tutorials are for those with little or no prior knowledge of turbochargers and their functions.

The Advanced section is designed for those who have a basic knowledge of turbocharging principles and are looking to expand their knowledge.

The Expert tutorials are for the die-hard Gearheads covering topics such as Pressure Ratio, Mass Flow Rates, and Surge Lines. The faint of heart need not apply, enter this section at your own risk.

Diesel Tech has been prepared much like Turbo Tech 103, but with the particular needs of today's modern diesel engines.

Turbo Optimization looks outside the turbocharger and focuses on the system as a whole to get the most out of your turbocharged engine. This section assumes that you have the correct turbo matched to the engine and moves into selection of items like air filters, charge air plumbing, and regulation. Also covered are testing and monitoring techniques as well as common causes of oil leakage.

Do you know what tests your turbo has endured??? Garrett is one of the few turbocharging manufacturers that subjects our turbo’s to several OE qualification tests. These turbocharging “qual tests” ensure Garrett produces a safe and reliable turbo for OE applications. When you buy a Garrett turbo you can be sure it is a reliable one!.

The Garrett Performance team have compiled answers to some of your common questions and provided them in the FAQs pages. Want to know What is Turbo lag? Or What is Knock/Detonation? You’ve come to the right place.
