The greater emphasis on fuel economy, engine responsiveness, and emissions control has driven the development of turbochargers that serve distinct commercial diesel applications. There is a Garrett® turbocharger for virtually every engine in the range of commercial vehicle applications, from the smallest to the largest on or off-highway engines. Garrett® turbochargers can single stage cover engine power requirements from 135 hp (100 kW) all the way up to and exceeding 1500 hp (1100 kW). Garrett® GT turbochargers are currently supporting engine ratings exceeding 4000 hp (3000 kW).

Typically, Garrett® Medium-Frame GT Series turbochargers (GT30-GT45) are designed for engine applications from 135 (100 kW) to 650 hp (480 kW) and are installed in on- and off-highway vehicles, farming and construction equipment and in marine applications. For engines 550 hp (400 kW) to over 1500 hp (1100 kW), the product line includes the Garrett® Large-Frame GT Series turbochargers (GT47 - GT70). It is very important to note that Garrett®'s unique, patented boreless compressor technology dramatically lengthens compressor wheel life at very high-pressure ratios and is available as an upgrade for commercial vehicle turbochargers.

Designed to improve fuel economy and engine response while increasing engine breaking capability, double axle VNT™ and AVNT™ (Advanced Variable Nozzle Turbine) commercial turbochargers also help to reduce NOx emissions. Electro-hydraulic controlled actuation for VNT™ and wastegate provide a direct interface with the ECU for precise airflow management. This range of boosting systems is complemented by a family of charge air coolers, exhaust gas re-circulation coolers, radiators and complete cooling modules.
