Garrett Turbos Top Choice for Puerto Rico's World Record Breaking Racecar
November 17-18
Puerto Rico - The Turbo by Garrett team was enthusiastically welcomed by large crowds at the Salinas Speedway in Salinas, Puerto Rico November 17-18. Among the many legendary Sport Compact race teams was Pica Motors, currently running the fastest 13B Mazda rotary 3/4 chassis powered by the Garrett GT45R coming in at 7.13 @ 191 mph.
The Garrett team also had the opportunity to witness a new NHRA world record by a 4 cylinder modified import race car at 7.56 @ 178 MPH. Kako Racing also owned the old record at 7.60 @ 177 mph.
Jorge Juarbe - AKA OSO Tech - and Kako Racing's driver/ mechanic/programmer, along with Orlando Valentin, the car's owner, were overwhelmed by the immediate performance advantage obtained after changing over to the Garrett GT42R turbocharger.
The turbo was spec'd out by Mike Turbo in Miami, a full service authorized Garrett performance associate.
Orlando Valentin has been racing import race cars for 17years. He's a heavy construction contractor from Aguadilla P.R. He and his wife have 5 children: Luis, Eric, Omar, Oscar and Crystal and race 2 to 4 times per week.
The car is a 1972 Datsun 1200 SR20 engine Gaby-prepared 3/4 NHRA certified chassis, Sakura Motorsports management system.
The following day, November 18th, Garrett displayed at the Fast and Furious car show at Carolina Speedway in Carolina Puerto Rico.
It was a beautiful day, with many of the island's premier tuners and speed shops in attendance. We had invited the New World Record holder and his family to the Turbo by Garrett booth to display for the day. Word had traveled fast thru Blogs and websites what this team had accomplished and Saturday night and he and his car where welcomed with congratulations and respect. The day was full of music, entertainment and import cars - and was a huge success.
On our way to the airport Monday we stopped by Colon Motorsport outside of Corozal P.R to visit with Eddie Colon, the island's premier tuner, and Gaby Skern where they were buzz-aly preparing for the weekend events. These guys are the heart of the island's best chance at being the first to have a 13B rotary-motored full chassis race car to travel the 1/4 mile in the 6's.
The 91mm Garrett turbo has driven this motor to 1/8 mile numbers which put this car's performance level in the 6.90 range.
We were disappointed to have missed visiting Major League AKA Siguel Racing, a full chassis pro class race car with a 3 GT35R Rotory 20b combination, but hope to see him in the near future.
Garrett turbos are the top choice for all of the fastest race cars on the island of Puerto Rico and we are proud to recognize these racers' accomplishments.
