Garrett-Powered Audi R10 Turbo-Diesel Wins Third Race In A Row.
July 2006
The Honeywell turbocharged Audi R10 kept its
winning streak alive last weekend bringing home first and fourth position at
the American Le Mans series race in Salt Lake City, Utah. Drivers Emanuele Pirro
and Frank Biela narrowly beat the Porsche team with a gap of only 0.318 seconds to
take home the victory. The second Audi car finished in fourth place overall and in
third place in the P1 category after having to make an unscheduled pit-stop to correct
a slow puncture. This marks the third win in as many races for the new turbodiesel
racecar.
"Emanuele Pirro and Frank Biela drove a great race," said Dr Wolfgang Ullrich,
Head of Audi Motorsport. "Allan McNish and Dindo Capello showed a great pace but
they were unlucky because, while leading, they had to make a late, unscheduled pit
stop because of a puncture and fell back. Otherwise a 1-2 victory would have been
possible. But motorsport is like that."
The cars will have another opportunity to take home a 1-2 victory
this weekend, July 22, in Portland, Oregon.
